How Acceptance & Commitment Therapy can help (ACT) combined with Cognitive Therapy

When emotional numbness occurs, where individuals find it difficult to feel joy and are more like numb or experience emotions of flatness most people want to know why they feel this way and what can be done.

If you are not taking antidepressants as this could be a
potential side effect, then it is worth looking at other possible causes.

ACT therapy is about getting in contact with our values
and start living your life accordingly.

Are you living your life according to your values? What are your values and how important are they to you? Work, family, love relationships, personal development or health (food habits, exercise) are examples of values. If the work is an important part of your values but not sufficient enough then it has more impact than if the work was just a necessity in your life. Have you heard about “bored out”? Simply the fact that many get bored at their workplace.

It can have a serious effect, such as burnout. What about your relationships? How is your relationship with your partner? Is it draining you rather than giving you energy and joy? What about social life? Are you neglecting your friends? The motivation and joy of daily life get reduced if we are not living our lives according to our values. Then this emotional numbness can occur as individuals do not experience any particular joy but are more just floating along with life without any strong emotions.

What also happens when individuals are not satisfied in their life is that the thoughts can begin to take over. When overthinking occurs, it can take away a great deal of energy from us, causing us to experience fatigue and reduced motivation. Therefore, can cognitive therapy often give new energy cause these thoughts get channeled and often solutions to problems occur instead of the thoughts just running on auto pilot.

Emotional numbness is something that can occur to everyone and is often a healthy response to e.g. grief and shocks. However, it is worth asking yourself:

Are you procrastinating something that is good for you?

Are you procrastinating your healthy lifestyle?

Are you postponing the gym for another week?

Are you still in the relationship that drains you instead of uplifting you?

Is your work not satisfying anymore but you hang in there?

Don’t you have enough time for yourself?

Whatever the cause, you may need some changes. Start small, it´s the small steps that create the big changes. Make a decision today to start doing that brings you closer to your values.

Heya this is somewhat of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
